De Spreeksteen is verbonden met die gebeurtenissen, ook al worden we er niet door gebonden. Het Spreeksteen initiatief bestaat sinds die dag en op de 5e mei daarna was de eerste officiële Spreeksteen er. Sindsdien zijn er praktisch elke zondagmiddag vanaf half twee sprekers en is er publiek.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Onlangs werd Jeroen Hennemans kunstwerk 'de Schreeuw' onthuld. Afgelopen week ontvingen we een oproep om Theo van Gogh daar te gaan herdenken. De oproep kwam van iemand die wilde weten hoe mensen met de moord op Theo van Gogh omgaan. Wij van Spreeksteen zijn niet zo van herdenken, maar een klein moment bij de kogelgaten in het fietspad kan er wel van af natuurlijk.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Als u toch wilt herdenken, dan stellen voor om ons te verzamelen in de Linneausstraat bij de kogelgaten van de aanslag in het asfalt van het fietspad, dan langs de schreeuw te lopen naar de Spreeksteen en aldaar elkaar er aan te herinneren hoe, waarom en hoe verder. Dat is hoe dan ook mooi. Zondag waren het er een stuk minder omdat het beeld zomaar 5 minuten stil stond.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Dan de door velen graag gedebiteerde voorbarige conclusie: Het Gesprek gaat het niet redden, want de kijkcijfers zijn laag. Onzin, denken wij dan. Zij (en wij) zijn krap drie weken bezig. Bovendien zei Ruud Hendriks (directeur en mede-oprichter van het gesprek) voor de lancering al dat in het begin enkele duizenden kijkers per programma als gemiddelde al heel wat zou zijn.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Wat beter kan:</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">- een vaste, voor iedereen te vinden, 24/7 zender</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">- het zou in alle tv-gidsen moeten staan</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">- het zou 24 uur per dag echt live moeten zijn</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">- het decor zou wat 'interessanter' moeten</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">- het zou (beperkt) toegankelijk moeten zijn voor publiek</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Wij hebben er wel vertrouwen in dat dat verbeterd kan worden, maar we vinden de gesprekken nu al een fijn nieuw platform voor de uitwisseling van gedachten in Nederland. Ruud Hendriks zegt er zelf over tegen ons: "het gaat verbeteren op alle punten, (...) de campagne gaat nu echt beginnen (...) De Storm(s) in een glas water is nog niet over, maar niet echt schadelijk (...) Onze adem is langer en wij gaan door, daar kan je zeker van zijn (...) We hopen dat Spreeksteen TV nog lang op het gesprek te zien is. (...) we hebben al een kwart van de aantallen kijkers van National Geografic, maar in feite maakt het niet uit. De internationale ranglijst van persvrije landen</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Nederland zakt van de eerste plaats naar de twaalfde op de ranglijst als het gaat om persvrijheid in Nederland. Deze lijst wordt samengesteld door de organisatie Journalisten Zonder Grenzen en Free Voice. Nederland krijgt een lage notering omdat er af en toe journalisten in het gevang gaan of vervolgd worden hier. In dit geval is dat om dat de journalisten hun bron niet wensen prijs te geven.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Een dergelijke ranglijst kan men ook maken voor de vrijheid van meningsuiting zelf en dan wordt het nog erger vermoeden wij. Er worden namelijk 'regelmatig' mensen vervolgd vanwege uitspraken en opvattingen, sommigen daarvan komen zelfs in de gevangenis of worden bedreigd met verbanning: enkele leden van de Hofstadgroep, enkele rappers zijn vervolgd, uitbaters van bepaalde sites, een rechts jongetje met een poster achter zijn raam, immams worden bedreigd met uitzetting om bepaalde preken zowel van Gogh als Fortuyn werden vervolgd om uitspraken enz.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Daarnaast lopen er veel mensen rond in Nederland die vanwege hun uitingen of gedachtengoed bedreigd worden door andere burgers en ministers. Er zijn er al minimaal twee om die reden vermoord een derde zit al een paar jaar in hyper-beveiligde omgeving (Wilders) en een vierde is internationaal op de vlucht geslagen om wat lucht te krijgen (A.H. Ali). Het lijstje is langer.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Dit fenomeen wordt niet bijgehouden in Nederland. Niet door de overheid zelf (als ze dat al zou moeten doen), niet door Amnesty International of andere organisaties buiten de overheid. De noodzaak voor zo'n vrijheidswaakhond wordt door kranten, publicisten en columnisten vaak ook enigzins honend ontvangen is onze eigen ervaring. In Nederland vindt men het belangrijker om te meten wie door wie beledigd is en waarom dan om de openheid van het debat en de denkcultuur te stimuleren en beschermen. De daling op deze ranglijsten laat zien dat het wel belangrijk is. Ook op de UNDP-index zakt Nederland onderuit o.a. om deze redenen.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Tegelijk is er wel al jarenlang bovenmatig veel overheidsaandacht voor een ander grondrecht, artikel 1, en geeft de overheid veel steun aan de organisatie <A href="http://www.artikel1.nl%20">http://www.artikel1.nl </A>Zowel de aard en omvang van het probleem dat men daarmee wil bestrijden is niet helder, maar ook de middelen en het belang zijn niet duidelijk en bovendien niet onbetwist.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">De vraag is of er minder of meer gediscrimineerd wordt in Nederland door juist die overheidsinspanning met propaganda tegen 'discrimininatie'. De vraag is of die focus kan, mag en zinvol is. Het geheim van geluk is namelijk niet gelijkheid, maar vrijheid zoals Thucydides al opmerkte. En het geheim van vrijheid? Moed.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Vrijheid moet verdedigd en gepromoot worden om op niveau te blijven. Dat is maar tot op zekere hoogte een overheidstaak. Vrijheid beschermen als overheid, doe je niet door journalisten te vervolgen of te gijzelen, niet door 'het beledigd zijn' en 'het gekrenkt zijn' te waarderen en te vertroetelen, dat doe je niet door terroristen vanwege hun denkbeelden te veroordelen, dat doe je niet door bedreigde politici en opinieleiders slechts tot aan de grens te beveiligen en dat doe je ook niet door meer blauw op straat te brengen of meer bonnen uit te delen. Je doet het niet door majesteitschennis of belediging van het koningshuis aan te gaan pakken, noch doe je dat door de wet op godslastering weer uit de kast te halen en dat doe je al helemaal niet door als bewindslieden en hoge ambtenaren continue uitlatingen te doen die het debat manen en die de schuld van geweld zoeken bij scherp debat en vrije uitspraken.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; min-height: 14px; "><BR></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Hoe moet dat dan wel, de vrijheid verdedigen?
